How we rank

For each ranking we pick the criteria that matter for that product type, give each a weight (shown on the page, summing to 100%), and record each product's value from the manufacturer's published specifications or a named independent test. Each value is scored against the best product on the page (the best gets 100%; a product with 90% of the best capacity gets 90%; for lower-is-better numbers, best divided by value; yes/no features score 100% or 0) and multiplied by its weight, so small spec differences only move the score a little. The total is out of 100.

Price is not part of any score. Pages do not show prices because they change daily; if a page ever lists one, it carries its source and date and is refreshed at least every 45 days (the build refuses older prices).
